About Us

Welcome to the Australasian Society of Career Medical Officers (ASCMO)!
We’re delighted you’ve landed here. At ASCMO, our mission is simple: to support and empower Career Medical Officers (CMOs) across Australia and New Zealand through advocacy, professional development, and a vibrant professional community.

Who We Are

ASCMO is a not-for-profit member-driven society representing hospital-employed CMOs—senior doctors who provide essential medical and clinical leadership in public and private hospitals. Our membership spans every state and territory, uniting physicians from diverse specialties and career stages under one common banner.

What We Do

  • Advocacy & Representation
We liaise directly with health departments, regulatory bodies, and policy makers to ensure CMOs have a voice in workforce planning, workplace conditions, and career pathways.
  • Professional Development
Through webinars, workshops, and our annual conference, we offer targeted training in leadership, clinical governance, and emerging healthcare trends.
  • Resource Hub
Members gain exclusive access to position statements, best-practice guidelines, salary and contract benchmarks, and a curated library of articles on medico-legal and ethical issues.
  • Networking & Community
We foster collaboration through regional meet-ups, online forums, and mentorship programs—connecting CMOs with peers, senior clinicians, and health executives.
  • Policy & Research
ASCMO commissions and disseminates research on CMO workforce sustainability, patient safety, and hospital performance, driving evidence-based policy at local and national levels.

Our Vision

To be the leading professional society championing the career progression, wellbeing, and impact of CMOs—ensuring high-quality, sustainable medical leadership underpins healthcare delivery across Australasia.
